Army distributes relief by helicopter in bordering Bandarban

NEWS DESK: Bangladesh army has been working relentlessly from the beginning through different activities such as creating awareness about the novel coronavirus, distribution of relief and providing treatment to the people in the backwoods areas in the entire Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region.
To ensure food security in this harsh times of deadlock situation among the marginalised and ultra-poor people of the ethnic communities, army distributed relief materials among the ‘Mro’ people who were in lockdown in bordering areas in Ruma and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban Hill District on Thursday.
On request from the authority of Bandarban Hill District Council (BHDC) and Bandarban district administration, army of 24 infantry division from Chattogram cantonment with the cooperation and supervision by army aviation the relief distribution was conducted there by using helicopter.

Bandarban region commander of 69 infantry brigade Brig Gen Khandaker Mohammed Shahidul Emran, A.F.W.C, PSC, brigade 2 (i) major Mohammed Iftekher Hossain PSC were present along with the villagers.
Moreover, relief of 10 kg rice and 3,600 packets of dried food like flattened and puppet rice, biscuits, pulse, edible oil and face masks were distributed among 360 families in Likri, Bulupara and headmen para in Thanchi and Chinlokpara in Ruma upazilas on that day.
General officer commanding (GoC) of 24 infantry division, Chattogram, Maj Gen S M Motiur Rahman, said irrespective nation, religion and creed, army has been working for the socio-economic development in the hilly region for long. Alongside this, military also has playing a significant role during any kind of disaster, education and healthcare in the area and it will be continued, added GoC.
“To reach with relief materials in such inaccessible areas is completely not possible for ourselves. So, we requested the Bandarban region to take step in this matter. We thanked the army for their quicker respond,” said Daudul Islam, deputy commissioner of Bandarban.
Bandarban region commander Brig Gen Khandaker Mohammed Shahidul Emran said Bandarban district council authority and civil administration were unable to operate relief distribution in those remote and bordering areas where Mro people remained in a self-lockdown. We took the initiative for distribution of relief in those areas upon request from them and such endeavour will be continued from us, he said.
